Miscellaneous Weapons Course (Category E, M-Other and R)
The Miscellaneous Weapons Course (Category E, M-Other and R) provides a foundational introduction for individuals interested in collecting or possessing specialised weapons under Queensland law. This course is designed for those seeking to expand their knowledge of weapons legislation and obtain the appropriate licensing required for legal possession of Category E, M-Other, and R weapons.
Participants will gain the critical skills and understanding necessary to comply with Queensland’s Weapons Act and Regulation. The course covers key topics including an overview of relevant laws, the role and impact of weapons within the community, and the responsibilities of licensed collectors and owners.
Practical and theory-based learning ensures participants are equipped with the ability to:

Handle weapons safely and confidently,

Store and transport them in accordance with legal requirements,

Navigate the licensing process with confidence, and

Understand the ethical and social responsibilities associated with weapons ownership.
This course also includes specialised content relevant to collectors and those with a genuine reason to possess these specific weapon types. Whether you’re new to collecting or looking to ensure compliance with current legislation, this course offers a comprehensive introduction to safe, legal, and responsible weapons management.
Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for Statement of Attainment for 11029NAT Course in Firearms and Weapons Safety (Approved for Firearms Licensing in Queensland).
This course meets the training requirements to apply for a QLD Weapons Collectors Licence for categories M (other than crossbows) and R (for non-functioning collectors firearms/weapons).
Entry Requirements
In order to participate in this course, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be over 18 years of age (or have written consent from parent/guardian to attend)
- Must not have any physical or other impairment which would prevent you from handling firearms safely – if unsure, seek advice from your GP or contact us to discuss suitability
- Must not have any criminal convictions (relating to drug use, violence or weapons) in the past five years
- Must not have been a subject to a domestic violence order in the past five years
- Must not have been a subject to an involuntary mental health order in the past five years

This course is not open to international students (student visa 500).
Units of Competency
This course covers the following units:
- NAT11029001 Demonstrate knowledge of weapons legislation, weapons, and community safety
- NAT11029007 – Use Category M (Miscellaneous Weapons) lawfully, safely, and responsibly
This course covers M (other than crossbows) & R categories of non-functioning collectors firearms/weapons only.
Delivery Options
This course is delivered face-to-face over 4 hours in-class only.

Licensing Requirements
Firearms Licensing in QLD is administered by the QLD Police Weapons Licensing Branch. Information regarding the licence application process is provided during the course. For more information about licensing or to lodge an online application click here.
Note – as part of the licence application, applicants are required to submit evidence of their genuine reason for a firearms licence. Examples of this include:
Sports/Target Shooting | Membership of a crossbow club |
Recreational Shooting (Hunting) | Details of your property or a letter from a property owner granting permission to use their property |
Occupational Requirement (including Primary Producers) | Details of your property and the requirement for firearms or a letter from your employer outlining the requirement for you to use firearms |
Collection of Weapons | Letter outlining the weapons to be collected or membership of an approved firearms collectors guild |
