On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a 11141NAT Certificate IV in Firearms (Dealer) qualification.

Essential entry requirements

Entrants to the Certificate IV in Firearms must:

  • Be over 18 years of age
  • Meet the fit and proper person legislative requirements for possession and use of firearms in the relevant Australian State/Territory
  • Be able to demonstrate safe handling experience with firearms, evidenced by completing a firearm safety course (approved for firearm licensing in Australia) issued within the previous 12 months, holding a current Australian firearms licence or current employment in a role where firearms are used.

Recommended entry requirements

It is recommended that entrants:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience in the safe handling and use of a variety of different firearms in a sporting, recreational or occupational environment
  • Hold HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (or its successor) attained within the last three years
  • Meet the requirements for working with children in the relevant Australian State/Territory
  • Hold TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or its successor) or another relevant training and assessment qualification described in the Standards for RTO’s if undertaking the Firearms Instructor specialisation.

This course is not open to international students (student visa 500).

The Certificate IV in Firearms (Dealer) requires a total of 12 units, including 7 core units and 5 electives. This particular stream includes units for armourer. Additional units may be completed and issued on a Statement of Attainment.

Core Units

  • NAT11141001 Work effectively in the firearms industry
  • NAT11141002 Identify, assess and control risk when working with firearms
  • NAT11141003 Promote legal and ethical behaviour with firearms
  • NAT11141004 Identify and comply with firearms legislation, regulation and policy
  • NAT11141005 Handle, use and maintain firearms
  • NAT11141006 Perform firearms emergency and incident response procedures
  • NAT11141007 Apply first aid treatment of a gunshot wound

For the dealer specialisation, you must complete the following elective units from Group B:

  • NAT11141013 Provide technical advice on firearms
  • NAT11141014 Buy, sell, transfer and dispose of firearms, ammunition and firearm related equipment

You can then choose to import any 3 other elective units available from the elective units of the Certificate IV in Firearms depending on your program.
