QLD Bodyguard

CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations

Don’t have an existing security licence?
Start with the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations.

This qualification reflects the role of a licensed bodyguard in Queensland, responsible for delivering close personal protection services to individuals who may face elevated security risks. These individuals—often referred to as “principals”—may include celebrities, politicians, executives, or other high-profile or at-risk persons.

Successful completion of this qualification meets the training requirements for a bodyguard licence under Queensland’s security licensing framework.

It is designed for those already working in the security industry or those entering the field who wish to specialise in personal protection and close protection operations. The course also provides a pathway to further study or careers in related security areas, such as protective services or security risk management.

Bodyguards typically operate in team environments, often under limited supervision. They are required to exercise sound judgment, situational awareness, and discretion in both routine and high-pressure environments. Practitioners take responsibility for their own performance and may contribute to team outcomes in dynamic and sometimes unpredictable situations.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Certificate III in Close Protection Operations (CPP31418).

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have had no criminal convictions in previous 10 years
Note; driving offences (e.g. speeding, drink driving, etc.) are not normally disqualifying offences.
  • Be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold an appropriate Visa to work within the Security Industry in Queensland.

You must display sufficient language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills to read and understand organisational policies and procedures, write reports and communicate with others in plain English.
