SA Security and Investigations Agent (Business Licence)

In South Australia (SA), to operate a business as a security or investigation agent, you’ll need a business licence. This applies to both individuals and businesses involved in activities like security work (including crowd control, installing/maintaining systems, and guarding) or investigation work (collection, inquiry, or gathering evidence). 

There are a couple of different pathways to attaining a SA Security and Investigations Agent (Business Licence).

To be able to apply for SA Security and Investigations Agent (Business Licence) you will require a statement of attainment for relative units completed. This will be provided to you on completion of your selected pathway.

The entry requirements for each of these pathways will differ. Some pathways will have no prerequisite entry requirements while others such as the Advanced Diploma of Business does have prerequisite entry requirements.

Should you wish to attain the SA Security and Investigations Agent (Business Licence) by completing an Advanced Diploma of Business, yuo will need to have already completed a Diploma or Advanced Diploma fromt he BSB Training package (current or superseded versions) or have two years equivalent full-time relevant work experience in an operational or leadership role in an enterprise.

You will require intermediate English language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills.

Before commencing any of these courses, you will be required to undertake an Online LLN ASSESSMENT. You can complete this higher level LLN test here now!

If you are completing the course via an online or RPL delivery mode, you will need access to a computer with word processing, PDF reader capabilities and an internet connection.

The courses associated with the SA Security and Investigations Agent (Business Licence) are not open to international students (visa 500).

Option 1 One from Category A + One from Category B

Category A:

  • BSBSMB401 – Establish legal and risk management requirements of small business
  • BSBESB402 – Establish legal and risk management requirements of a business venture or new business venture.

Category B:

  • BSBSMB402 – Plan small business finances or
  • BSBESB403 – Plan finances for new business ventures or
  • BSBSMB406 – Manage small business finances or
  • BSBSMB404 – Undertake small business planning.
Option 2 BSBOPS601 – Develop and implement business plans
Option 3 One of these qualifications (others are available but these are the ones we offer)

Note: must include business legal and financial management units

Standard Online Delivery

1 unit per month for up to 12 months. Includes regular contact with a trainer. Should allow 20 – 25 hours per week to study.

Accelerated Learning

For people with prior knowledge, skills or qualifications. 2 units per month for up to 6 months. Should allow 30 – 40 hours per week to study.

Assessment Only / RPL

For people with evidence of their extensive experience.

We aim to have all RPL assessments finalised within 12 weeks but it is usually much quicker. The actual timeframe depends on the course you are seeking RPL for, how long it takes you to supply the evidence and how long it takes us to verify your evidence.

Other Information

On enrolment, you will receive a customised training plan. This training plan will list all units of competency you will complete within this qualification along with their due dates for submission. Students must be submitting units by the due dates outlined on your training plan or an extension application will be required.
