To obtain a Class 1F Security Licence in New South Wales (NSW), which allows an individual to work as an armed security officer (e.g., armed guard or firearm handler in the security industry), there are specific licensing requirements set by the NSW Police Force, through the Security Licensing & Enforcement Directorate (SLED). Below are the key requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check: You must not have a disqualifying criminal record. A criminal history check is conducted to ensure that applicants do not have any serious criminal convictions that would make them ineligible for the licence.

  • Mental Fitness: You must be able to demonstrate that you are of sound mind and mental fitness to carry and operate a firearm. This often involves a medical and/or psychological assessment.
