Enhance your tactical capabilities and operational readiness with our TAS Batons and Handcuffs course — a program designed for security professionals who require practical skills and legal knowledge in the use of defensive equipment.
This hands-on course provides participants with the competencies needed to lawfully and effectively carry and use batons and handcuffs within the scope of their duties. Through expert instruction and scenario-based training, students will develop the confidence and decision-making ability to respond appropriately in high-pressure situations.
Course Outcomes
A Statement of Attainment will be awarded upon successful completion of TAS Batons and Handcuffs skillset. This will be advantageous for job roles which require the carry and use of Batons and Handcuffs.
It will allow you to apply for a Permitted to carry baton and Permitted to carry handcuffs endorsement on an existing Tasmanian Security Employee or Individual Agent licence.
Entry Requirements
- Hold an existing Security Employee or Agent Individual licence with activity Security General Guarding in Tasmania
Participants may choose to undertake an LLN assessment with one of our qualified assessors prior to committing to their enrolment in this qualification.
This course is not open to international students (student visa 500).

- CPPSEC3111 Restrain persons using handcuffs
Delivery Options
This qualification is available through face to face learning only. This is a one day in-class experience with a qualified and experienced trainer. Students will complete theory components online in class.
The course is delivered through practical training, scenarios, role plays and group discussions.

Assessment Re-Submission Fees
Should you be deemed not competent after 2 attempts at a unit of competency, an assessment re-submission fee of $50 will apply per assessment.
Re-Enrolment
Should you wish to cancel your course or your enrolment is cancelled by us due to no progress and you then wish to re-enrol, a re-enrolment fee of 25% of the standard course fee will apply if requested within 3 months of initial cancellation. If re-enrolment is requested within 4 – 12 months of initial cancellation, 50% of the standard course fee will apply.
Licensing Requirements
For TAS Batons and Handcuffs licensing, you will need to a apply for permission to carry a baton and permission to carry handcuffs.
This is done through the Consumer, Building and Occupational Services department of the Tasmanian Government.
Eligibility
Before you can apply for permission to carry a baton endorsement or permission to carry handcuffs endorsement you must:
- hold a full Security Employee or Individual Agent licence with activity Security General Guarding
- supply evidence of a statement of attainment (qualifications) showing the completed training units
- get a letter from the Firearms Service, Tasmania Police, advising you are exempt under Section 15c(1) of the Police Offences Act 1935 by contacting Tasmania Police at:

Documents must be in a digital format (i.e. PDF; jpeg; jpg; text) ready to upload to your online application or renewal form.
You can apply for an endorsement at the time of renewing your licence or by amending your current licence online through the My Licence portal. The renewal option will only appear on your My Licence account when it is within the renewal period. You are able to amend your licence any day of the year to add this endorsement.
