Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion the TAS Bodyguard training, you will be awarded a CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations qualification.
This will allow you to add ‘Bodyguard’ as a function to an existing Security Employee Licence under Security Guarding General in Tasmania.
Entry Requirements
For entry to this course you must:
- be at least 18 years old
- be a fit and proper (PDF, 147KB) person
- not be a bankrupt (commercial sub agents only)
- have no recorded conviction of a prescribed offence.
You must already hold a TAS Security Guard and Crowd Control licence in order to enter this course and add ‘Bodyguard’ as a function to an employee licence.
You will need access to a computer with an internet connection to complete the online component of this course.
Units of Competency
To be awarded a CPP31418 Certificate III in Close Protection Operations which will allow you to apply for a TAS Bodyguard licence, you must complete the following units:

- CPPSEC3101 Manage conflict and security risks through negotiation
- CPPSEC3103 Determine and implement response to security risk situation
- CPPSEC3105 Coordinate provision of quality security services to clients
- CPPSEC3121 Control persons using empty hand techniques
- CPPSEC3122 Plan provision of close protection services
- CPPSEC3123 Implement close protection services
- HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid
- HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety
Elective Units
- CPPSEC3102 Maintain operational safety and security of work environment
- CPPSEC3106 Gather, organise and present security information and documentation
- CPPSEC3108 Store, protect and dispose of security information
- CPPSEC3124 Prepare and present evidence in court
- CHCCCS020 Respond effectively to behaviours of concern

If you would also like to achieve an Agent (Business) licence in Tasmania, you will then need to complete the following units:

Assessment Re-Submission Fees
Should you be deemed not competent after 2 attempts at a unit of competency, an assessment re-submission fee of $50 will apply per assessment.
Re-Enrolment
Should you wish to cancel your course or your enrolment is cancelled by us due to no progress and you then wish to re-enrol, a re-enrolment fee of 25% of the standard course fee will apply if requested within 3 months of initial cancellation. If re-enrolment is requested within 4 – 12 months of initial cancellation, 50% of the standard course fee will apply.
Licensing Requirements
To work as a bodyguard in Tasmania, you must obtain a Security Employee Licence with the “Bodyguard” activity endorsement. This licence is regulated by Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) under the Security and Investigations Agents Act 2002.
You must already hold a General Security Guarding licence before applying for the bodyguard endorsement.
Application Process

Online Application: Submit your application through the CBOS My Licence portal.

Identity Verification: Visit a Service Tasmania centre to verify your identity and have your photo taken.

Fingerprinting: Arrange for fingerprinting at a Tasmania Police station.

Documentation: Upload all required documents, including training certificates and proof of identity.

Processing Time: Allow approximately six weeks for application processing.
