Getting Feedback from Your Trainer: How to Learn from Mistakes

Feedback Isn’t Failure - It’s a Learning Tool

Receiving feedback can feel uncomfortable – especially if you’ve worked hard on something. You might feel frustrated, embarrassed, or even discouraged. But feedback isn’t about criticising you – it’s about helping you improve.

At Asset College, we’re here to support your growth. That includes giving you honest, constructive feedback – and helping you use it to move forward with more skill and confidence.

Why Feedback Matters

Whether you’re studying security, business, cyber security or any other course, feedback plays a key role in:
We give feedback because we want you to succeed – not because we expect perfection.

It’s Normal Not to Get Everything Right First Time

Many students need to redo or revise part of an assessment. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed – it means you’re still learning, and that’s exactly what training is for.

In fact, how you respond to feedback often matters more than the mistake itself. Taking feedback seriously – without taking it personally – is a skill that will serve you well in your course and your career.

It’s okay to ask:
Trainers are happy to explain – we’d much rather help you understand than leave you guessing.

Focus on One Thing at a Time

If there’s a lot of feedback, start with the most important point. Improve that area first, then move on to the next. Small improvements build confidence and capability.

Feedback ≠ Criticism

Remember:
Mistakes are how you grow. Every experienced professional was once a beginner too.

Using Feedback to Improve Future Work

Great learners don’t just correct one task – they apply the feedback to everything that comes next. You can do this by:
This turns feedback into ongoing growth, not just corrections.

Turn Feedback into Progress

You don’t need to fear feedback – you just need to understand how to use it. At Asset College, we want you to succeed not only in passing assessments, but in building confidence and skills you can carry into your work and future study.

Your trainers are here to guide you – but it’s your response that turns feedback into progress. Be open. Be curious. Be willing to try again.

That’s how real learning happens.
