Why Feedback Matters
Whether you’re studying security, business, cyber security or any other course, feedback plays a key role in:
- Identifying what you’ve done well
- Highlighting areas where you’ve missed something important
- Guiding you to meet assessment and industry standards
- Preparing you for the real expectations of employers

Many students need to redo or revise part of an assessment. That doesn’t mean you’ve failed – it means you’re still learning, and that’s exactly what training is for.

How to Respond When You Receive Feedback
Read or Listen With Curiosity
Pause before reacting. Ask yourself:
- What is this feedback telling me?
- Which parts can I action straight away?
- Are there patterns or repeated comments I’ve seen before?
Write it down – even if it’s messy. Getting it out of your head helps you see the situation more clearly.
Ask Questions if You’re Not Sure
It’s okay to ask:
- Can you clarify what I missed here?
- What would a stronger response look like?
- Can you give me an example of how to improve this?
Trainers are happy to explain – we’d much rather help you understand than leave you guessing.
Focus on One Thing at a Time
If there’s a lot of feedback, start with the most important point. Improve that area first, then move on to the next. Small improvements build confidence and capability.
Feedback ≠ Criticism
Remember:
- Feedback is about the task, not your value as a person
- Trainers are required to assess work against industry standards - not “mark easy”
- Needing a second attempt doesn’t mean you’re not good enough
- Feedback shows where you are now - not where you’ll stay
Mistakes are how you grow. Every experienced professional was once a beginner too.

Great learners don’t just correct one task – they apply the feedback to everything that comes next. You can do this by:
- Keeping a record of the feedback you receive
- Reviewing common comments before submitting future work
- Asking yourself “Have I improved this area?” each time you revise
This turns feedback into ongoing growth, not just corrections.
